I probably have been struggling with my iron deficiency for few years, and it only became a big issue in the last 6 months. I went through very distressing hair loss, when in a short space of time I've lost about 50% volume of my hair. I tried to get some help from GP and in the last 10 weeks of their care my levels have gone so low that I wasn't able to function properly. All I heard was I couldn't feel the way I felt only from low iron, it was suggested maybe I was stressed, or my life style was making me so fatigued, my heamoglobin was still holding therefore I was fine... When I contacted effect doctors the response was almost immediate along with forms and lots of information. When I came for my consultation I felt someone acknowledged me for the first time. I was very excited for what was to come, the process was smooth, all the information and very good letter for my GP - hopefully it will push them to actually help me to find out the reason behind my low ferritin. I had few side effects, but I was informed about the possibility and I knew what to expect. The only thing I regret is waiting for my GP to do more for me and not getting the iron infusion sooner.
